Few things top a world premiere, except maybe a commissioned world premiere, or a world premiere commissioned by talented musicians, or a world premiere commissioned by talented musicians who are genuinely enthusiastic about performing new music, or a world premiere commissioned by talented, genuinely enthusiastic musicians who, pleased by the music you write for them, fully and faithfully convey that pleasure not only at said world premiere, but in subsequent performances, ….. except maybe a world premiere by The Definiens Project. -Doug Opel

America Tropical

This opera was composed by David Conte with libretto by Oliver Mayer. Our performances will take place at USC, Autry National Center, and the Pico House (downtown on Olvera St.) These performances will feature musicians from Definiens and singers from the USC. Funding has been provided by USC’s Vision and Voices program.

Definiens was awarded a grant from the LA County Arts Commission. This two year grant will allow us to produce a concert series for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons!

We have also received funding for the second year in a row from the BMI Foundation, Inc!
